Student Employment Hiring Procedures
POSTING A POSITION
- Complete the R6 Form (Request to Advertise a Student Employment Position) and fax, scan, or email to Human Resources along with the current job description.
- The position will be posted for a minimum of 5 days.
Application Process
- Applications are available to download in each posting. Applications should be completed and sent to the hiring department as specified in the job posting.
- The hiring department is responsible for accepting all applications and utilizing the Student Employment Hiring Form for interviewing.
- Be sure the student has included a copy of their Work Authorization Form with their application.
Interview and Selection Process
The hiring department must provide equal opportunity and use consistent screening practices to review applications and begin scheduling interviews. Each phase of the hiring process must meet the University's equal opportunity/affirmative action obligations.
Once the interviews have been conducted and a decision has been made, the hiring department will need to:
- Notify the student of the offer, contingent upon a successful background check.
- Complete the Student Employment Hiring Form to document reasons for selection/non-selection.
- Send the Student Employment Hiring Form, the selected applicant’s application and Work Authorization Form to Brandy Myers-Juarez at bmyersju@cameron.edu.
- Hiring supervisors will then receive a hiring packet, via email, which is to be forwarded to the selected student.
- Please have the student complete the entirety of the student employee hiring packet before they take it to Human Resources.
- All areas that need to be completed on the packet are highlighted. If the student has any questions, please ask them to leave it blank and HR can help them fill it in properly when they drop it off.
- If the student is a U.S. Citizen, they will need to bring the following items with them to HR:
- Their Social Security card
- Their driver’s license or official identification card
- Their Cameron ID
- Their banking info for direct deposit
- An official banking document for direct deposit (such as a Direct Deposit form or voided check – MUST include account & routing #.)
- If the student is an International student, they will need to bring the following items with them to HR:
- Their foreign passport
- Their I-94
- Their I-20
- Their Cameron ID
- Their Social Security card (If the student does not have a Social Security card, the department will need to submit a formal letter to the International Office, detailing the position the student is being offered. The International Office will assist the student with the process of obtaining a social security card.)
- An official banking document for direct deposit (such as a Direct Deposit form or voided check – MUST include account & routing #.)
- Send non-selection letters to the applicants that were not selected (email is acceptable).
Hiring Process
Once the background check and hiring packet is completed, HR will enter the student's employment information in Banner and send an email to the hiring department notifying them the process is complete. This email will contain the official start date for the student employee. This email will also include a link to online orientation for the student to complete.
***Students are not allowed to begin work until Human Resources has sent official notification to the hiring department with an official start date.***
Rehiring Student Employees
Students are allowed to continue their status of employment, as budgets allow, if they worked in the immediate preceding Fall or Spring semester and they continue to meet the enrollment requirement. Otherwise, the position must be posted and hiring procedures must be followed.
